A new Icelandic superstore will open in the former Wilko with vouchers and gifts for the first customers

Iceland is to open a new food warehouse in Leicestershire. The new store, in the former Wilko in Melton Road, Syston, will open on Tuesday, May 21, and will have plenty of bargains to tempt shoppers on the first day, according to a company spokesman.

The opening day will also see £1,000 worth of Iceland vouchers given away to the first 100 customers through the door, as well as a giant 1.2kg tub of Jellybeans to the first 200 customers through the tills .




The store will create around 30 new jobs in the area, with some still available, the spokesman added.

It will be Iceland’s fifth store in the Leicester area and its second food warehouse, with one in St George’s Retail Park in Leicester city centre. The warehouses are about double the size of other stores in Iceland, offering a wider range of goods, often at cheaper prices.

For one day only, on May 21, the new Food Warehouse in Syston will have seven special offers available to customers in store. Anyone attending the opening day can make the most of the following unique offers:

The supermarket opens at 8am on opening day and anyone who joins the queue before 7.45am – as well as vouchers and a big tub of Jelly Beans – will receive a free raffle ticket. The raffle winner will be able to take part in a supermarket, helping themselves to whatever they can grab off the shelves in 90 seconds.

Other prizes will include baskets, fryers and blenders.
