The ‘Easy’ Hack That Prevents Black Clothes From Fading Has People Amazed

An ‘easy’ trick to prevent black clothes from fading has impressed people. Black is a choice for many, but the frustration of seeing your prized items turn gray after several washes is all too familiar, often ruining the chic all-black look.

But don’t worry, says one lifestyle expert, who claims the solution to keeping your black from fading is probably sitting in your kitchen cupboard right now. Mary Futher, known to her online audience as “Madame Sweat,” is no stranger to sharing helpful cleaning and personal care tips with her followers, addressing everything from body odor issues to making sure your clothes don’t end up smelling like mold.

In a video that has garnered more than 39,000 likes, she reveals: “If you want your black clothes to stay black like this, I have an easy tip for you.” She suggests “two natural things you already have in your kitchen” that could be the key to solving this common laundry problem, according to the Mirror, the Express reports.

Digging into the details, she advises, “Either vinegar or salt. Put a quarter cup of vinegar in the drum with your detergent. It helps set the paint.” Or, if you prefer, “use salt. You will need half a cup of salt that you sprinkle over your black laundry. Remember, water temperature matters. So wash them in cold water and use the quick wash setting. on your car.”

Laundry expert Mary has issued a stark warning about drying black clothes, warning against using the dryer or hanging them on the line. She advised, “You need to get a drying rack. Don’t put it outside. Leave it in the toilet or laundry room to dry.”

TikTok users were stunned by the revelation, with many eager to try the trick. One user exclaimed: “Never dryer! I love the vinegar tip, I’ve always used vinegar in white but now I’m black too. Thank you.” Another grateful user replied: “Thank you so much for the tip,” while a third praised: “Thanks ma’am, great tip. U SLAY!!!

However, not everyone was sold on the idea, as skepticism surfaced in the comments. One doubter said: “No, Palmolive Green Cold Water Dish Soap is gentle drying or line drying. It never fades..”

Another shared his experience: “This is what my family does… detergent and vinegar and my black clothes still fade.” Mary’s guidance follows, revealing how long wet laundry can sit before it turns moldy. Many have experienced the frustration of forgetting a load of laundry, only to later discover it smells musty, requiring a rewash.
