‘Shameful and cringe-worthy’ – Paul Merson slams Manchester United with Newcastle prediction

Paul Merson has predicted Manchester United will slump to yet another Premier League defeat.

United host Newcastle tonight in their final home game of the campaign. The Reds come into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal at the weekend, where they continued to lose ground in the race for European qualification.

Erik ten Hag’s side are eighth in the Premier League and have work to do to qualify for either the Europa League or the Europa Conference League. After facing Newcastle, the Reds will then travel to face Brighton on Sunday in their final game of the season.

United will qualify for the Europa League with a win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final. However, Ten Hag and Co. will need to finish at least sixth to have a chance of qualifying through their position in the Premier League table.

Newcastle are three points clear of United in sixth, while Chelsea are seventh and also fighting for European qualification. And it was predicted that the Reds would suffer another, which would be their 15th top-flight defeat of the campaign.
