The new Sherwood branch of the Bagel Project is enjoying a sales success

The Bagel Project couldn’t have gotten off to a better start when it opened its doors in Sherwood. The opening weekend was a sales success, attracting a queue of eager foodies.

The founders have taken over the former site of Good Honest Bakery, and before that The Bakehouse, in Mansfield Road. It is the second branch of the business, which also has a shop in the heart of Hockley.

After closing for a day of rest on Monday, it was back in business on Tuesday, serving freshly hand-baked, New York-style bagels, plus focaccia sandwiches and sweets – all from its own bakery just around the corner.

Manager Molly Tyrrell said: “From the start it was so busy. From the moment we opened the doors there was a huge queue. It was non-stop, it calmed down a bit at one point, but it was more or less. less all day. It’s a whole new team here, and the girls came in from out of town for the opener.

“A lot of people came in the days leading up to it, wishing us well. It was very nice to enter a community. I had a very warm welcome. We feel very fortunate to come to an area that is really excited to welcome us.”

All-time favorites like smoked salmon and cream cheese, pastrami Reuben (and a vegan version) and corned beef with chimichurri sauce are on the menu, but there are new additions including curried chicken, loaded tofu and avocado halloumi.

There are also focaccia sandwiches, including BMT with salami, pepperoni and prosciutto, and a veggie Taste of the Med. These will be a permanent fixture in Sherwood but not in Hockley where they will appear on the specials board from time to time. A wider variety of cookies and cakes from the in-house bakery are also on sale at the new shop.
