Tesco shoppers slam ‘ridiculous’ price of olive oil – saying it ‘must be confusion’

Tesco customers have expressed their frustration at the price of olive oil at the supermarket.

They have branded the cost of the everyday item “ridiculous”, with many opting for alternatives as shop prices appear to be on the rise. It comes after a Tesco customer spotted the oil on store shelves for £7.90.

A photo of the product and its price was shared by the customer on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “I emptied my ISA for olive oil x”.

Echoing the sentiment, another user X responded to the post, humorously tweeting: “Next time I go to Tesco I’ll look the security guard straight in the eye and say don’t be a hero bro.”

After being posted on X, the image also circulated on a Facebook meme page, where it went viral, garnering 12,000 likes.

The price also left many Facebook users stunned, with one commenting: “They must have the labels mixed up – it shouldn’t be that much for standard olive oil that isn’t extra virgin!” Another added: ‘Honestly not even funnier. The price of plain shit is beyond ridiculous.

Another person agreed, noting, “I love how the staples of our diet are now luxury items.”

Conversely, some people claimed to have seen more expensive olive oil elsewhere. One person commented: “Sainsburys Italian olive oil was £11.90 yesterday, soon changed my mind. Another replied: “That’s pretty cheap for olive oil these days.”
