Stephen Warnock reveals X-rated response to Leeds United chief over Derby County transfer

Stephen Warnock has revealed how he wanted out of Leeds United under Massimo Cellino and claimed the Italian made a late bid to convince him to stay at Elland Road.

Warnock signed for Derby in January 2015 and went on to make 30 appearances before moving to Wigan Athletic. But the BBC pundit claimed Cellino had made a last-ditch bid to convince him to remain at Leeds with the offer of a new two-year deal. Warnock was so keen to leave Leeds during what was a turbulent time at Elland Road that he quickly refused the offer.

“I thought, I need to get out of here because this isn’t going to end well,” he told the Undr the Cosh podcast. “Derby were in contact and wanted me to join them.

“We played Derby on TV and I got on the bus afterwards and I was going to Derby – it had all been agreed. The owner was sat on the front of the bus and he turned round and said I want you to stay and I’ I’ll give you a new two-year deal.

“I said I would not f**king sign that for anything. I told him I was going tomorrow. He was like okay, okay. He was fuming, but trying to be calm. It was a very strange situation.”
